Frequently Asked Questions

  • Competitor Ages:

For safety purposes, a minimum of 16 years old for the paddlers and 12 years old for the drummers has been set.

  • Will there be food trucks? Would it be possible to book our own?

No & No to both of these.

The onsite Boaters Restaurant has food & drink concessions for the whole of Sale Water Park and so will be selling drinks and BBQ food again at the event from the outside area (water facing side) round and behind the left hand side of the restaurant.

  • Can we bring picnics and drinks? What about BBQs?

Your own picnics and drinks for personal use (not for sale), fine.

    BBQ’s, definately NO.

  • Can we bring dogs to the event?

Owing to the high number of expected people at the event, bringing your dogs is not recommended

  • Who steers the boat?

Each dragon boat will have a helms person supplied by Race The Dragon Ltd. who will steer your boat.

Teams are NOT expected (or allowed) to steer their own boats.

  • How does the team entry fee and team fund raising work?

The team entry is £550.00 per team for a team of up to 17 team members (between eleven - sixteen paddlers + team drummer). This money goes towards the cost of organizing the festival.

The team sponsorship is separate and is paid to the charity direct via the team's online giving page, which the Captain / another team member will need to set up.

Once set up, this link will need to be sent to all team members so they can pay their sponsorship. The link will also need to be sent to info@charitydragonboatfestivals.org.uk  so it can be put up on the team entry table.

Each team is challenged to raise a minimum £1,000 in sponsorship.

  • How do we register a new team for an event?

Go to 'Events' and select the location of the event you are interested in entering.

Scroll down until you come to the green "Enter Here>>" button and click on it for further instruction for that event.

(If you can't find a green button, it may mean all places have already been taken, so check the "Team Entries" table further down the website).

  • Challenge Races (also known as Head-to-Head Races)

Challenge Races (also known as Head-to-Head races) are something we can organise for any company looking to enter two or more teams into the event.  Challenge Races become in essence, a corporate team building exercise ... at charity rates.

Over the three qualifying heats, your teams will be seeded so they do not until the final qualifying heat, thereby enabling heat’s 1 & 2 to become practice races before ‘the BIG one’ in heat three.

Even better, we will also ensure that in the event we are 3-boat racing and you only entered two teams, your Head-to-Head teams will race in lanes 1 & 2 for best photo opportunity.

Challenge Races are ideal if your teams are up for a bit of healthy inter-department / branch rivalry?

  • When will the Race Order be available?

The Race Order will be published on Saturday 29th April and will be available for download via the red button that will be placed on the event webpage.

  • Some of our team members are not available to attend the festival, can we change team members?

Yes, as long as they have completed their part of the team participant consent form, attended a safety briefing and got their wrist band.

  • I have members who might arrive late, is it possible for us to race later on?

Requests to race later in the program can be made by the registered Captain only up until 17:00 on the 'information deadline day' (usually 10 days before the event) by emailing julian@charitydragonboatfestivals.org.uk.

Please note that, because of the race order's complexity and the placement of Head-to-Head teams, it may not always be possible to accommodate change requests.

Please be aware:  If your team member is late arriving on the day, it may mean you having to race without them.

  • Is it possible to change our team name?

Team names can be changed by the registered Captain only up until 17:00 on the 'information deadline day' (usually 10 days before the event) by emailing julian@charitydragonboatfestivals.org.uk.

After this time the Event Information Sheet that also includes the Race Order is then published.

  • Once registration closes, how do late arrivals register?

Please ask them to come to Event Control and speak to one of the staff there.

  • Why does our charity not have a home page link in the Team Entry table?

One of the benefits for being a Charity Partner is to have their charity names linked to their home page in the team entry table.
